A Level 2 Smart Charger connects to a 240-volt electrical circuit to charge your EV at about four times the speed of a standard household outlet. The “smart” part is the network connection that allows you to easily schedule your charging and to participate in Managed Charging events. If you don't already have a 240-volt circuit, you can have one installed by a qualified electrician and apply for the Wiring Upgrade Rebate.

To be eligible for this rebate, you must:

1. Be a UI residential customer who installs a new, qualified Level 2 Smart Charger to charge a plug-in electric vehicle at home,
2. Connect the charger to the internet (note, this may entail adding a Wi-Fi signal booster if your router is a long way from the charger), and
3. Agree to enroll in managed charging, wherein the program will occasionally send requests to adjust your charging schedule in response to electric grid conditions.
